NEW VENUE FOR 2013

The SXT 5 will feature 12 hours of mountain biking, paddling, trekking, swimming (with PFD), and navigation through virgin AR territory - Laurel River Lake Recreation Area, London, Kentucky.  The area combines some of the best features of Cave Run Lake and the Red River Gorge, with great paddling, sweet mountain biking trails and beautiful clifflines with rock shelters, waterfalls and more!  Here's a link to the US Forest Service website and a link to the Corps of Engineers website, both full of interesting and helpful information.

The course design will be flexible, to allow participants to tailor the race to their abilities. Solid navigation skills will be needed to complete the course, however.  This race is not recommended for beginners.  If you're new to adventure racing, please consider the Unbridled AR Series, or volunteering!

The race is open to soloists and teams of 2, 3 and 4 (male, female and co-ed).  The entry fee is $125 and includes waterproof maps, wicking race shirt, post-race meal, USARA sanctioning and Regional Qualifier sponsorship, course vetting, door prizes, and more!

If you are not a USARA member, you will need to purchase a 1-day membership for $8 or a 1-year membership for $35.  If you are a USARA member, you must present a current USARA card at check-in.  If you do not have your current USARA card, you will be required to purchase a 1-day membership and will be reimbursed $5 of the fee by USARA.

RACE HEADQUARTERS

Baymont Inn & Suites in Corbin, Kentucky, will serve as the host hotel for the SXT 5.  This modern and attractive hotel rates a 4 out of 5 with 113 reviews on Trip Advisor.  Free wi-fi and continental breakfast, of course, but how about a pool and hot tub inside a sunny solarium?   The hotel is 17 miles from the start/finish area.  Baymont is offering a 20% discount to racers.  Call the hotel directly (606-523-9040) and mention "Sheltowee Adventure Race."  A standard room for 2 adults would be $68.79.  There are several room and suite options from which to choose, however.  Racers will be able to check in at the hotel on Friday evening, if they prefer.  Click on the image below for additional information about the host hotel.
